NEMRT & the Illinois Tactical Officers Association are pleased to offer the following dynamic training opportunity:
Patrol Isolation & De-Escalation Instructors Course
Dates: March 9-10-11-12, 2026 Times: 9am-5pm
Location: South Chicago Heights
PURPOSE OF COURSE: This four-day, 32-hour course is designed to certify instructors to conduct Patrol Isolation & De-Escalation end user training for agency patrol officers. The focus of this program is to provide students with techniques, tactics, suggested equipment and tools for isolating subjects and de-escalating critical incidents –specifically those that DO NOT involve suspects with firearms. The course will provide department instructors with knowledge, experience, specialized skills, scenarios and an equipment list they will need to conduct patrol isolation & de-escalation end user training.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: The ITOA 4-day Patrol Isolation & De-Escalation Instructor Course will thoroughly dissect the complex concept of isolation & de-escalation and the many elements in determining its feasibility or effectiveness in a variety of encounter types. The need to determine to what extent using isolation & de-escalation techniques is feasible in specific high-pressure and rapidly unfolding encounters is the premier Law Enforcement challenge of our time.
Participants in this course will review and practice CIT verbal techniques, learn and utilize the ICAT Critical Decision-Making Model, learn concepts and methods that support isolation & de-escalation efforts when personal connections can be made between officers and subjects.
In situations when the subjects are non-compliant, or an immediate risk to themselves or others, realistic intervention tactics, techniques and equipment will be provided in an escalating escalation of force models.
Law Enforcement has worked diligently integrating CIT type training & verbal skill sets within the patrol ranks. Isolation and de-escalation tactics compliment CIT verbal skills with techniques, tactics and equipment that assist in containing subjects who are the focus of the police activity.
When it becomes necessary to apply less lethal tactics to detain and/or place the subject into custody, the course provides a multitude of skill sets and equipment that can be utilized to accomplish this mission with a focus on de-escalation and limit use of force options.
COURSE GOALS: The goal of this program is to equip police patrol trainers with the knowledge, tactics, techniques and methodology to teach Isolation and De-Escalation. When departments incorporate isolation and de-escalation into their response protocols, there exists the possibility to many times solve unique police problems with less reliance on elevated use of force options.
