RDS / Pistol Optic Armorer & Shooting Skills Class
Will County Sheriff's Range
Thursday, August 15, 2024
Registration at 0930-1000 hrs.
Ends at 1800 hrs.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This state-certified one-day, 8-hour program has been designed by Chief (ret.) Jeff Chudwin, Deputy (ret.) Kimberly Heath-Chudwin, and Chief (ret.) Daryl Howell to train law enforcement firearms instructors, department armorers, and individual officers how to select and properly mount duty handgun pistol optics – known as RDS or Red Dot Sights. The current trend in the adoption of these duty RDS-pistol optics requires an understanding of the mechanical issues related to the mounting and securing of the optic to the pistol slide. The types of tools, screws, adapter plates, and torque specifications that are the key to proper mounting will be a primary focus of this hands-on instruction.
Repeated range failures of these optics due to improper installation have been observed in law enforcement handgun skills classes that the authors currently instruct through the MTU system. Upon completing this course of study, the student officer will have the foundation knowledge of the required tools and specifications to mount and maintain the duty handgun RDS-optic properly. Additionally, the student officer will practice live fire sight in procedures for the RDS/duty handgun optic and engage in courses of fire that illustrate the usefulness and effectiveness of the duty handgun RDS-pistol optic.
Various tools, thread-locking compounds, and mounting screws will be provided for demonstration and use by students during the class.
A list of tools to bring if the student has access will be furnished upon registration.
What to Bring:
