INSTRUCTOR: Chief (ret) Steve Ijames, one of our profession’s foremost Less Lethal Subject Matter Experts. Steve’s decades of experience as a full-time SWAT Team member and commander, in conjunction with his work with the National Tactical Officers Association, International Chiefs of Police Association, around the globe (37 Countries) through the US State Department and most of our nations State Tactical Officer Associations, has provided him with a LL knowledge base second to none. Attendees will receive a thumb-drive with all the information, training material and documentation you will need to present a 12 Gauge LL certification course for your department.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This comprehensive one-day 10-hour course will develop the students as in-house agency instructors in the use of 12-gauge kinetic energy impact munitions and their delivery systems. Topics of instruction include less lethal philosophy, management of officer created jeopardy, instructor development, use of force and liability issues, tactical considerations and the potential for death or injury, deployment procedures, suggested less lethal policy concerns, medical issues and proper documentation.
METHODS OF EVALUATION: Students will be evaluated by taking a written test, passing a qualification course and participation in practical exercises.
Required Equipment & Ammunition:
- 12-gauge smooth bore delivery system.
- 10 rounds 12-gauge kinetic energy impact munitions (e.g., bean bag rounds).
- Duty gear, ballistic vest
- Eye Protection (wrap around/shooting), Hearing protection
- Writing Material
COURSE PREREQUISITES: Certified Police Officer with a knowledge of basic patrol tactics and proficient with the 12-gauge delivery system. This IS NOT a basic 12-gauge operational course – attendees must be proficient in deploying / utilizing the weapon system. Experienced firearms and or tactics instructors preferred.
